6.7 The Horse as Mentor with Indigenous Educator Tyler Tootoosis

This episode is a keynote presentation by Tyler Tootoosis at the Think Indigenous Education Conference 2026 in Regina, Saskatchewan Canada.

Tyler is an educator, horseman, and facilitator whose work brings together life skills, emotional learning, and the medicine of horses.

Raised on Poundmaker, his approach to education is shaped by his lived experience navigating school with ADHD and dyslexia, and by his years working in frontline education with Indigenous youth in reserve communities.

Alongside his wife Cheryl, he co-leads Mistatim Healing, an equine-based program focused on supporting individuals, families, and communities through connection with horses.
